Terms & conditions

Last updated: 12 July 2026

Please note: this page accurately reflects how the site currently works, but has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.

Please read these terms carefully before using Find a Charity. By using this website you agree to be bound by them.

About this website

Find a Charity is a free, independent charity search tool covering England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is operated by an individual (a sole trader) and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (CCNI).

Using the service

You may use this website for personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not scrape, harvest or systematically download the data, transmit spam or malicious code, or use the site in any way that is unlawful or that damages, disrupts or places an unreasonable burden on it.

The Ask feature

Ask uses AI to interpret the words you type and then searches public charity-register data. It is a search tool: it is not a chatbot, and it does not provide legal, financial, medical or other professional advice. It does not assess, endorse or verify any charity’s suitability for your circumstances.

Results are best-effort. Identical searches may return slightly different results, and a search for a place returns the closest relevant matches rather than a complete list of every charity operating there. Always check a charity’s details with the charity itself or the relevant regulator before relying on them. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services.

Paid charity landing pages and banners

Charities may pay to feature an enhanced landing page or a banner shown above the search results. Such placements are clearly labelled as an advertisement feature. Paid placement does not affect organic search ranking. Specific commercial terms are agreed separately with each charity.

Accuracy of information

Charity data is drawn from the publicly available registers and is provided for general information only. We make no guarantee that it is complete, accurate or up to date. Always verify details directly with the charity before making a donation or relying on the information for any other purpose.

Third-party links

This website may link to external charity websites and social media pages. We have no control over the content of those sites and accept no responsibility for them.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all liability for loss or damage arising from your use of this website or reliance on any information it contains. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Intellectual property

The design, code and original content of this website belong to the operator or its licensors. Charity register data is used under the Open Government Licence v3.0 (see Data Sources & Attribution). Map tiles and geocoding data are subject to their own third-party licences.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects when they were last changed. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
