Edinburgh Schools Kayak Club was set up to increase participation at grassroots level and create opportunities for young people to progress in paddle sport. The club aims to create a pathway for paddlers to become involved in kayaking and canoeing with an emphasis on the Olympic disciplines of Canoe Slalom and Flat water racing. There are also opportunities for river trips and recreational paddling as well as leadership roles allowing young people the opportunity to gain valuable coaching qualifications that can help with CVs, college and university applications and progression to coaching roles at the Club and beyond. Edinburgh Schools Kayak Club have been working with Edinburgh Young Carers (EYC), who provide respite support to young people aged 5-25, to deliver a block of paddleboarding sessions along the Union Canal.
