About

The British Veterinary Ethnicity and Diversity Society (BVEDS) was founded in 2016 to address racial underrepresentation and inequality in the UK veterinary profession. Created by professionals, it provides a dedicated platform to support minority ethnic veterinarians and promote systemic change. Working alongside bodies such as the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the British Veterinary Association, BVEDS advocates for inclusive policies and greater representation. The society operates through a volunteer-led committee and offers mentorship programs linking students and early-career vets with experienced professionals. It delivers webinars and workshops on unconscious bias, leadership, and cultural competence, while creating safe spaces for discussion and peer support. BVEDS also engages in outreach to widen participation in veterinary education.
