The Charity was set up to raise awareness and change negative perceptions of Down syndrome and to provide support to parents, carers and families of those with DS. We raise awareness by running social media campaigns that demonstrate what life is actually like with a person with Down syndrome, the 'lived experience'. We have also created a new parent book that is designed to support new and expectant parents. This book focuses on lived experiences that are typical of the majority of real people with DS. We provide these books free of charge to support groups and maternity units across the UK. More recently we have been providing grants to support groups to help fund gift baskets for new and expectant parents which contain our book, small gifts and information regarding support. We also fund training for parents and carers in Makaton sign language, helping children with DS with maths and their writing skills.
