About

Bread for Good Community Benefit Society is a food justice and health initiative to grow better grain and bake healthier bread with the common purposes of nourishment, sustainability and food sovereignty. We are defining and developing a grain and bread system that meets the needs of the times. Specifically, we respond to agricultural pollution, food insecurity and the obesity/diet crises in Scotland by offering The People’s Bread, a community standard for nourishing and economical bread. We mill locally-adapted wheat and rye grown organically in nearby fields into fine wholemeal flour using ultra-low energy mills. This flour is distributed through community bakeries and retailers and online. Our education and skills training activities build on decades of research and practice to spread knowledge of slow fermentation systems (e.g. sourdough) using wholegrain flours, with the aim of making ecological public health a reality for everyone.
