We maintain the Walled Garden as a site of historic importance and work with Edinburgh City Council to ensure the listed walls and Dovecot are preserved. A kitchen garden and orchard are maintained by volunteers for production of organic local food which is available for volunteers, visitors and people in the local community. We provide opportunities for learning and skills development and create areas of peace and calm for spiritual reflection and wellbeing. We ensure activities and developments are environmentally friendly. We carry out rain water harvesting from available roofs and ensure that biodiversity is maintained throughout the garden by growing plants attractive to pollinators and work to maintain a diverse range of plant species and other wildlife. We open the garden to visitors at weekends and for volunteers four times a week. We provide community events, open days and activities throughout the year and have workshops on flower arranging and mushroom growing.
