Bob Scott's Bothy Association
✓ Registered charity · SC045845About
It's a maintenance organisation set up to ensure the availability of Bob Scott's Bothy as an open shelter for anybody accessing the Cairngorms. Bob Scott's Bothy Association (BSBA ) was set up in response to the National Trust for Scotland's (NTS) requirement for any building on their land, but not in estate use, to obtain a lease and to take out public liability insurance. To obtain a lease we had to become a legal entity, in our case a SCIO, and, to pay for the insurance, the members of BSBA pay an annual membership fee. The Bothy itself is in good condition but only as a result of regular and timely maintenance. Our members frequently visit the Bothy and report any defects and regular inspections are carried out to identify problems. Minor work and emergency repairs are carried out immediately but major items are discussed and scheduled for action at a work party, possibly the following year. Any money from fundraising or donations are used for maintenance.
