About

Ayrshire Climbing Centre was set up to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities across Kilmarnock and the wider West of Scotland through the sport of climbing. The charity began by taking disadvantaged people to climbing walls using a mobile tower, with the aim of improving physical and mental health, confidence and social connection. From the outset, inclusivity was central to its purpose, with a particular focus on those experiencing disadvantage through disability, poverty, ill health or other personal circumstances. In 2023 the charity opened Ayrshire's first purpose-built indoor climbing centre, housed in a converted B-listed former church in Kilmarnock, providing bouldering, roped climbing, a sensory room and a range of outreach facilities. Any surplus generated by the centre is reinvested to fund community programmes and extend the charity's reach to deprived and vulnerable groups across the region.
