The Aberdeen Seafarers Centre
✓ Registered charity · SC043560About
The charity was set up to provide facilities in Aberdeen for visiting seafarers, where they could meet with the Port Chaplain, and have counseling if needed, and meet with other seafarers in a safe environment with recreational activities, as well as access to the internet to maintain contacts with their families. The Centre provides soft drinks, snacks, tea and coffee and can be accessed by seafarers at any time via a key code. The charity also assists distressed sick and retired seafarers and their dependents with small grants. Registered 'Ship Visitors' attend vessels and give help and support if required, and assist with any problems they may have, as well as making them aware of the Centre. We have held sessions with retired seafarers to teach them how to use laptops and I-pads to undertake routine tasks enabling them to keep in contact with friends, and have confidence in using the equipment for other essential tasks. These groups have also arranged trips and outings.
