Future Woodlands Scotland

About

Future Woodlands Scotland is a charity working in Scotland, transforming cityscapes and rural landscapes through the power of trees. Our origins are with the Scottish Forest Alliance, which created 5,000 hectares of new native woodland between 2000 and 2011. We became a charity in 2012 and have grown from our original purpose, which was to provide research grants to further our understanding of Scotland's native woodlands. In 2020, we launched a programme to facilitate more native woodland creation and regenerative forestry practices. Our Urban Forestry Programme for Scottish towns and cities launched in September 2024. We launched a Skills programme in 2025 to better support and resource the sector. And we continue to stimulate and fund innovative research.
