Christine Witcutt Memorial Fund
✓ Registered charity · SC033297About
In 1993, Christine Witcutt was killed by a sniper while delivering aid to Sarajevo as part of an Edinburgh Direct Aid convoy. Christine was a teacher: the purpose of the Fund is to commemorate her by making education possible for some deprived of it, primarily in Sarajevo. Our main focus is enabling children with severe special needs in Sarajevo to benefit from educational services. This is effected by our funding a group, the Christine Witcutt Outreach Home Visiting Service, comprised of part time staff at the Vladimir Nazor Centre. This service provides vital developmental support and advice and therapy services to about 20 children with special needs and their families in their own homes. These children are not included in school for a variety of reasons: lack of suitable transport, very fragile health, complex domestic situations etc., but also because the national and local education systems do not as yet make provision for them.
