The charity was set up in 1967 to bring together “a whole community” by restoring some derelict buildings in Haddington, making them available for community use. The Lamp of Lothian buildings consist of the Granary, Mill the Bridge Centre at Poldrate and Haddington House. The Granary and Mill are utilised by Poldrate Arts and Crafts Centre, the Alistair Grant Hall and Mault House by East Lothian Council as a community centre. Together these buildings, which are solely maintained by the Lamp of Lothian and given free of charge, welcome over 1000 people a week. We are able to offer the use of our buildings free of charge with an income generated from Haddington House Ltd which is let as office space, from donations from a group we set up Friends of the Lamp, from a small grant from One Council Partnership and from fundraising and general donations. The charity is run by a voluntary Board of Trustees assisted by an administrator.
