About

The Tweed Foundation was established with the primary aim of protecting, restoring, and enhancing the aquatic environment of the River Tweed and its tributaries. Founded in 1997, the Foundation operates across the Tweed catchment in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland, a region renowned for its rivers, biodiversity, and internationally significant wild salmon and trout populations. Its mission is rooted in the recognition that healthy freshwater ecosystems are essential not only for iconic species like Atlantic salmon but also for wider biodiversity, local communities, and sustainable recreational fisheries. The Tweed Foundation combines practical habitat restoration, scientific research, monitoring, and education to safeguard wild salmon and trout populations while benefiting the wider river ecosystem and local communities.
