The Ballantyre Prize should be awarded by the Council every three years or at other shorter or longer intervals as the Council may decide, the first award being made in Nineteen hundred and seventy three and associated with the fiftieth anniversary of Dr.Ballantyne's death. The prize is to be awarded for outstanding work on the 'Pedigree of Disease' or some allied subject relating to genetics and including work on disease in animals and plants as well as in man, the prizeman to be selected by the Council. If in the opinion of the Council there has been no suitably outstanding work in that field to justify the award of the Prize in any year in which it should be awarded the Council may in its discretion either award it as a prize for outstanding work in some other field or decide to postpone consideration of the making of an award.
