Home-Start Dundee (subject to insolvency proceedings)

Home-Start Dundee is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age. Families are referred to Home-Start through Health Visitors, Social Workers, Community Mental Health Teams or they may self-refer. Families are then matched to a suitable volunteer who offers regular support, friendship and practical help to the family under stress in their own homes helping to prevent difficulties escalating into a crisis. Volunteers are normally parents themselves who offer their time freely. After an initial course of preparation and with support and ongoing training, they bring personal experience, skills and considerable knowledge of resources within their local area. Volunteers do not represent 'authority' they have no official status so they are unlikely to pose a threat to families.
