Finlaggan Trust

About

Finlaggan was the seat of Clan Donald, Lords of the Isles, and is the most important medieval site in the west of Scotland. At its height, the Gaelic Lordship of the Isles controlled approximately a third of the Scottish land mass plus the Glens of Antrim, and the Lord was the second most powerful person in Scotland. The Trust was set up to preserve the site on Eilean Mor itself, and to promote knowledge of and research into its history, and the history of the Lordship. In addition to the site and its ruins there is a Visitor Centre where members of the public can find information and view a VR reconstruction of the buildings. We run sessions for school pupils (in Gaelic or English as required) and other events including lectures.
